Many years ago, my Grandma gave me this family Bible. It was printed in 1843 and as you can see is not in the best of condition. What I love is the fact that it has brought comfort and joy for 165 years. I can imagine my ancestors reading it, looking for guidance. Every time I see it, it gives me goose bumps. This weekend is the perfect time to reflect on psalm 33:12

What a treasure! I love the pictures of the Bible. I love looking through someone else's Bible and seeing where it's worn and maybe where notes are made. It's a bit like a scrapbook or a journal. I can see why you get goose bumps.

What a wonderful Bible! I can't imagine having something that old passed down in my family. This is so special. That's such a blessing knowing that your ancestors were reading that Bible and that now you have it. We are a blessed nation and I am so thankful for our freedoms.

What a treasure you have! It's beautiful!!! I have a small Bible written in my native language, Cherokee, from 1853. It's also not in great shape but I love it. It even has one of my grandparent's handwritting in it - in cherokee!
By the way, your blog title got a hymn stuck in my head! :)

what a wonderful post Barb. I love antique books period....but you're right...imagining the earnest prayers and fellowship that poured out over those pages....awesome!! And they were your peeps! I have a family Bible from the 1800's as well...It's in German, but the language of God's love is universal, isn't it?

Thanks so much for dropping by. I'm sorry you had such a scary piano teacher. I hauled my daughter to piano lessons for five years and does she even touch one now? Nooooo. I feel like I did my part though. I'm so glad you mentioned Psalms. I was just telling Avery yesterday that it is one of my favorite books in the Bible. David was so deep, yet so simple in many ways. We are so blessed to be able to have as many bibles as we want and they are available so freely. I hope we don't take them for granted.
