This sweet little face is not feeling so well

It has been a while since I posted so I thought
I'd bring you up to date.
Our sweet Tommy (7 years old) has not been well.
He has been having grand mal seizures.
It has been a tough time.
The Vet is ruling things out and right now he is on
medication.
The medication is helping the seizures but he is
having a rough go.
I am in nurse mode.

Fortunately or unfortunately, I have had 21 years
of dealing with a loved one that has seizures.
At least I was able to really discuss with the Vet
the different stages he is going through.

I was telling a friend about it and her comment was
"he's just a dog".
He is more than that.
He is a very important part of our family.

As a kid, I was always bringing home animals.
Strays, injured, you name it.
I'm an animal freak.
Right now, I am a concerned dog mom.
I am hopeful that the situation will improve.
Saying my prayers.

Jeff arrived in Hawaii on Tuesday.
They had a wonderful weekend.
The ladies were so excited and surprised to see daddy.

He called from the USO while at the airport in Oahu.
A bag didn't make it on his flight so he had to wait 5 hours
for it to show up.
While waiting, he was able to call-BIG YAY!

For the next week or so, we won't be hearing from him.
The Army has his total attention.
I can't wait until he can call again.

O.K, this photo was taken in 1985.
I have it in a pewter frame on a table and every time I look
at it, it makes me SMILE.

It was taken in Hawaii.
J.W. was 2 and Jeff was 6.
I think that is a smurf towel.
If someone would have told me back then, that Jeff
would end up there, I would not have believed it.
It is so amazing the way things turn out.

Have a Blessed weekend.
I am hoping to visit if Tommy allows.
He really is the ruler of our house right now.

I've missed hearing from you, Barb, and now I understand why. Life gets in the way of blogging sometimes doesn't it, especially when we are troubled. I'm so sorry to hear about your dog, and hope that the
vet can give you some answers soon.

Best wishes,
Debi

Grrrr! I really get annoyed when someone says that to me! They are not just a dog or just a cat! They are part of the family, a loyal friend and companion, one who loves you unconditionally. That being said, I pray that the vet finds out what is causing the seizures and can stop them and Tommy gets better.

That is great that Jeff was able to spend the weekend with his family.

I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Hope Tommy is doing well today, Nurse Barb. I really get upset when people say "it's just a dog or cat" or whatever. They are so, so much more than that. I really hope that the vet will be able to keep things under control for Tommy, he's got a lot of years ahead!

Love that pic of your kids!

Take care, Bonnie

I missed your posts, Barb, but now I understand what was going on. I hope that your Tommy will soon have some relief and that, by extension, you too!

Give Tommy a big hug, he looks just like our Grand Dogs Clyde and Marvin.

My little chihuahua Oobi has seizures too. In the beginning, it was hard to watch. I went thru the testing, and the vet ruled out the other issues, which pretty much leaves epilepsy. we got him on a stable and therapeutic level of phenobarb and acutally, it was not that hard to do. he is doing MUCH much better with the meds, and has very few seizures now...and if he does have one, it is very mild. The medication really works, the only hassle is keeping it at a safe yet therapeutic level, which takes regular vet visits in the beginning.

Good luck with your dog, and know that the medication really does help them (and us) to go back to living normally!

Oh Barb! MAY TOMMY GET WELL NOW! It hurts so badly to see a sweet loved one suffer....he IS your family! God bless you all, Anita

Yesterday was a tough day. The medication makes him very loopy. He has trouble walking and keeps falling over. The Vet says it will be a while to get a therapeutic level.
I have heard those words quite often with a loved one but didn't think I would hear it about a loved dog. I just hope the seizures don't break through the meds.

Oh no! Oh Barb I am so sorry to hear about Tommy being ill. I hope they find out what is wrong quickly. I will be saying prayers. Our animals become such a part of our lives and we love them so much. Please keep us posted on how he is doing. My heart goes out to you.
