Food for thought- FDA Globalization Act of 2008

I wanted to share with you something that has been on my mind for a few weeks.

It will impact thousands of small businesses including mine, if it is passed.
I believe it may start with cosmetics but will eventually roll over to those that make anything and sell it whether online, at a craft fair, etc.

The committee on Energy and Commerce is looking at how to provide adequate funding for the FDA. If you would like to take a look at this
you will be able to read more about it.

I like to have a choice when purchasing products. I buy a lot of Indie products but I will also buy from larger companies. If this goes through, there will be no choice. We will be purchasing from the big guys only. Many companies will be put out of business and it will certainly impact the already shaky economy. I know in my case I deal with a quite a few companies- packaging needs, labels, web hosting, paypal, ingredients, even the United States Postal Service.
It will have a great impact.

I am posting a link to the Indie Business blog
where you can read more about The FDA Globalization Act of 2008.
I signed the petition to stop it. I like to have choices and I believe in the American dream.

If you have a chance, please visit the link. This effects all of us.

  5. What a shame! Home enterprises should be encouraged -- it's the American way! I will write to my Congressional representatives.

    Thanks!

  7. Barb, thanks for sharing this. I will go over to the site and read about it. What a shame it would be for the indie businesses to be so adversely affected.

    Blessings,

  10. It's interesting that governments and multi-national corporations seem to be pushing in the direction of globalization and reducing choices, while individuals long for personal contact, unique products, and freedom to choose.

I hope the FDA ruling does not pass.

Oh, Ashley is still in Finland. She has a blog (updated every few days) about her trip. www.verdent.blogspot.com, if you're interested. Thank you for asking about her.

  14. It's going to kill all the small business, but that's the true goal. Must only allow the big boys to play in the sandbox.

  16. Thought you might like all the publicity you could get on this cause so Ive added a call to action on the site. Us "gun types" tend to support each other and live to sign petitions! Hope business is going well, and stays that way for ya!
